What Does She Mean To You?

Saarey Jahan Sey Achcha Hindustaan Hamara…
Hum Bulbulien Hain Iski,
Yeh Gulsitaan Hamara…

Ever so youthful,
With courage replete,
Standing by herself,
Her destiny did she meet,
Through the lanes of history,
Through each and every street,
Marauders and invaders did she boldly defeat…

Resources that never deplete,
She pours out to us with every heartbeat,
A Mother so true,
Yet have we given her,
Her rightful due?
Of respect and reverence that she once knew,
Neglect and contempt she does receive in lieu,
And complete disregard too,
Are we so self involved that we can’t spare a moment or two?
Let us regret our gross neglect,
And our feelings clearly view,
Halt a bit and ask each other,
‘What does she mean to you?’

Have we driven the Mother to shrivel and weep out of sight?
Are we not responsible for her miserable plight?
Can we deny the Mother her right?
The onus is on us to herald in some light,
To put an end to her long dark and  lonely night…

So let’s stop any kind of pretense,
Swaying with the breeze,
Sitting on the fence,
This Motherland grants us so much,
With food, clothing and shelter,
Our lives she does incessantly touch,
Why do we her status perpetually ignore?
To others why do we compare her,
And wound her to the core…?

What does she lack?
Nothing,
Except insolent children,
Selfish and slack,
Enamored of the west,
Completely offtrack,
Who disregard her beauty,
Her bounty,
Her natural wealth too,
Grabbing and hoarding all the way through,
Yet no time,
To give a Mother,
Her richly deserved due…

Are we so self involved that we can’t spare a moment or two?
Let us regret our gross neglect,
And our feelings clearly view,
Halt a bit and ask each other,
What does she mean to you?

Politicians, Population,
Poverty, the Power game and Pollution,
The deadly ‘P’s,
Yet through it all she gives us Peace,
Fertile plains, snow capped mountains,
Gushing rivers and land aplenty,
Flora, fauna, sandy deserts,
On three sides the sea,
For every need she has the seed,
If only we let go of greed,
She has abundance in store,
Yet we want more,
Ransacking her till she is sore,
Right to her core…

To many a brave child has she given birth,
Who endured the freedom struggle,
And proved their worth,
All religions co-exist upon her chest,
Conflicts and chaos she does detest,
Unity and harmony is her quest,
Amongst all residing in her warm and loving nest…

A spiritual capital for the globe,
Offering solace the world through,
Along with many a Master,
God chose to appear,
On her soil too,
So many an Avatar did incarnate,
And so the ancient sages did her venerate,
Through epochs gone by,
Then this land grew even more sacrosanct,
Being touched by the divine lotus feet,
Of Beloved Mother Sai…

So, what stops me and you,
From giving the Mother her rightful due?
Of respect and reverence that she once knew,
Neglect and contempt she does receive in lieu,
And complete disregard too,
Are we so self involved that we can’t spare a moment or two?
Let us regret our gross neglect,
And our feelings clearly view,
Halt a bit and ask each other,
‘What does she mean to you?’

Have we driven the Mother to shrivel and weep out of sight?
Are we not responsible for her miserable plight?
Can we continue to deny the Mother her right?
The onus is on us to herald in some light,
To put an end to her long dark and lonely night…

So, let a reply ring out loud from within you,
A feeble voice will not do,
Let us wake up to our responsibility,
Slack and slumber let us undo,
Rise above,
Fill her with harmony and love,
Respect and reverence too,
Which is her long awaited due,
For does not the Mother mean everything to you…?

Simply perfect..I wish all the citizens of our country understand the importance of what we have and value it… N yes we do live in a beautiful country with dignity… Most importantly it is the land that the avatar of this age chose….How potent is this land then??? To walk on the same land as him n yet say we are a third world country…HOW CAN IT BE???
